Event Tyres is an award-winning mobile tyre fitting service which has
shaped the industry with pioneering work. Since 2003, company directors
Mark Shankland and Gary Moloney havegrown Event Tyres
into a service which assists tens of thousands of motorists annually.
Now working in partnership with AA Tyres, it intends to shape the
industry further still through innovation and ambitious expansion plans.
Event Tyre’s history can be traced to 1927 when Goodyear established its first factory in the UK. This provided George Sproson (Mark Shankland’s grandfather) with the experience and skills required to develop a tyre remoulding business.In 1930 he launched Hayson Tyre Service Ltd, a business he successfully ran for 40 years until his retirement.
Inspired by this legacy, Chris Shankland, GeorgeSproson’s son-in-law, worked for Michelin before he launchedthe company Town and Country Tyres. It became an iconic tyre fitter during the 1970s and 1980s, and heran the service with his son Mark Shankland until Kwik Fit purchasedthe company in 1994.
After the deal, Mark Shankland became Kwik Fit’s Operations Director. He worked with Control Director Gary Moloney for the first time and they managed an operation of 190 mobile tyre vans. Thisexperience led them to establish anew mobile tyre fitting service - launched in 2003, Event Tyres has now enjoyed 12 successful years inoperation.
Event Tyres has a head office and depot based in Manchester, a Northern control centre in Warrington, and a Southern control centre in Henley on Thames. It operates over 30 vans with a 42 strong staff who supply and fit over 100,000 tyres annually.It has received many accolades, including the Honest John Outstanding Achievement Award as the most consistently endorsed company amongst customers.
Mark Shankland and Gary Moloneyhave now pushed Event Tyres into new territory with a partnership with the UK’s most trusted brand – the AA*. In 2015, Event Tyresjoined forces with AA Tyres to make a powerful partnership and help one of the UK’s most recognisable brands launch its own mobile tyre fitting service. The companies now intend to provide an unrivalled service in the UK through a combined history which offersunmatchableindustry knowledge and expertise.
Mark Shanklandsaid: “After 12 years of pioneering in the mobile tyres sector we have forged an exciting partnership with the AA, which is the UK’s most trusted brand. Event Tyres nowplans to offer this fantastic service on a nationwide basis to Event and AA Tyrescustomers. We’re now looking to expand to over 300 vans to maintain our position as the UK’s premier mobile service.”
