The International Paralympic Committee’s recent decision to increase snowboarding medal events by eight has caused much excitement among winter sports tourists. Ski holiday companies, like the renowned Ski Amis, are expecting an influx of last minute ski deals being taken up as a by product of the 2018 Paralympic Winter Games enthusiasm.

Alpine Skiing and Snowboard officials for the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) recently travelled to Korea in order to visit the progressing winter sports venues and assess the progress being made for the competitions.

Snowboarding made its Paralympic debut at the 2014 Sochi games, and its gain of a further eight medal events has been an impressive leap, illustratrating the popularity the sport has gained. Alpine Skiing has earned itself 30 medal events and doesn’t appear to be losing any popularity any time soon either.

This popularity has certainly been reflected by the winter sports industry as of late, with growing anticipation spurred on by the developments for the PyeongChang 2018 games expected to increase the amount of last minute ski deals snapped up during the quieter months.

Like the rest of the industry, Ski Amis have certainly been feeling the Winter Paralympics buzz, with representatives commenting on the positivity and renewed excitement felt by both experienced and first time winter sports holidaymakers.

The venues visited during the IPC’s time in Korea included the Jeongseon Alpine Centre and the Yongpyong Alpine Centre, the first of which will be used for the alpine speed events and the latter for the snowboarding competitions.

The IPC Snowboard Asia Cup and IPC Alpine Skiing Asia Cup will be used as a Pre-Test in 2016 for both the newly built venues and athletes - guaranteeing to create a buzz for the winter sports industry.

Anyone wishing to take advantage of last minute ski deals is advised to book as soon as possible, with many companies predicting excellent sales.
